This work was originally created in 2014 as a collage using graphite pencil, acrylic paint, ink, and shellac on paper (46 x 46 cm), and is being painted here by the artist in a larger format. The other part of this collage Gedanke - von Untertage nach oben gefördert is sometimes seen standing on the right side along the wall.

Background: Our first meeting took place in the greenhouse at the Botanical Garden in Düsseldorf in April. Keypoints of our talk was (of course) art, photography and portrait. She mentioned that she needed some new photos of herself and we stayed in touch.
The day when I visited her in her studio, I came with no expectations. I thought we would just do a photo shoot in which I could practice my portrait photography. The result hit different. As a artist she knew exactly that a single image has its value, and offered a substantial sum, which I suppose marks my debut as a freelance artist in Germany. We found out that our wish to photograph an artist at work and getting photographed became real and left an immense amount of gratitude in both of us.
